Multi-culturalism trumps gay tolerance

Two British schools have banned children's books about gay relationships due to objections from Muslim parents. Via John C. Wright, who says:

The internal logical contradictions of the Left on display. Apparently, when Christians object to books aimed at teaching preschoolers to idolize a sexual malfunction, we are blackhearted villains, but when Muslims object to sodomy, they must be heeded with grave deliberation. I am not sure how the pious totem pole of victimology goes, but apparently multi-culturalism trumps gay tolerance.

What do you expect from the Brits? I would have told them to go give it a try, just like I would to any Christian.

Having said that ... these books about gay relationships are stupid. I mean seriously, do you recall any books that were written specifically for the pupose of highlighting heterosexual relationships?

Gay relationships are what they are. It will take years for people to get over their fears (some like McAdams, never), but this kind of in-your-face schooling is stupid.

As far as Mr. Wright is concerned: victimology is a conservative invention. You know we poor, poor Christians are so abused, even though we constitute 85% of the population and have had it our way for centuries. Now some people have decided they won't take it anymore so suddenly, Christians are victims. Give me a break.

I do love your blog name though, Dave.

Well, actually argumentum ad hominem tu quoque is an informal logical error. If I complain that the British treat Christians with contempt and Muslims with deference, it does not invalidate (or even say anything logically relevant) about my complaint to point out that my side is in the majority, and dominated the West for centuries.

So what? If my side is in the majority, does that mean it is right to insult us? Does that mean it is somehow not an insult to insult us, not hatred to hate us, not mockery to mock us?

I should not complain about the absurdity of liberalism ... why? Because Christians are always fair game?

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
