Capitol Drive will be a little brighter during the holiday season this year. The Village Board will pay up to $2,000 toward the $10,000 cost of additional seasonal lights, the lighted snowflakes seen this past year.
The Shorewood Foundation, Business Improvement District and Community Development Authority will pay the remainder.
I like Christmas and all the decorations and such, but not as much as I dislike drowning people.

Lifeguards too costly for Atwater; village working with county on plan

The village cannot afford the proposed cost of four lifeguards for Atwater Beach but wants to provide guards this summer and will work with Milwaukee County to determine an affordable plan.
The county can provide four lifeguards seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at a cost of $18,500.
The village has $8,000 in its budget for the lifeguards but Village Manager Chris Swartz said he could adjust the budget to $13,500 if the village and county could agree on that price.
The Shorewood Foundation has agreed to cover the costs of equipment that will be needed but will not pay for operational costs.
